Acoustic Screens

Waterloo Acoustics designs, manufactures and installs acoustic screens and noise barriers for building services plant, industrial equipment and rooftop applications.

Our acoustic screening systems are individually designed to provide effective noise reduction while taking account of plant ventilation, access, structural requirements and the appearance of the finished installation. Screens can be supplied as standalone barriers or incorporated into complete plant enclosures and screening systems.

Acoustic Screening for Building Services Plant

Acoustic screens provide an effective means of reducing noise from external mechanical and electrical equipment where a fully enclosed solution is neither necessary nor practical.

Typical applications include air conditioning and refrigeration plant, chillers, condensers, heat pumps, generators, ventilation equipment and other building services plant. The acoustic performance of a screen depends not only on the construction of the panels, but also on its height, position and relationship to both the noise source and nearby noise-sensitive locations. Waterloo Acoustics can assess these factors and design the screen as part of the overall noise-control solution.

Designed Around the Installation

Our acoustic screens are designed around the specific requirements of each project rather than supplied as a standard off-the-shelf barrier. The height, length, panel construction and location of the screen are selected to achieve the required noise reduction while taking account of the available space and surrounding structure.

Systems can incorporate acoustic panels, acoustic louvres, weather louvres, access doors, gates and supporting structural steelwork, allowing the screening to be developed as one coordinated installation. Particular attention is given to airflow, maintenance access, structural support, weather exposure and appearance, ensuring that the finished screen provides the required acoustic performance without compromising the operation or servicing of the equipment.

Acoustic Design and Performance

The effectiveness of an acoustic screen depends on more than the sound reduction performance of the panel itself. Screen height, position, source location and the line of sight to nearby receptors all influence the final result.

Where required, Waterloo Acoustics can assess the existing noise environment, establish the level of attenuation needed and develop the screen arrangement accordingly. This allows the acoustic design to be considered alongside the practical requirements of the installation from the outset.

For more demanding applications, screening can also be combined with acoustic louvres, attenuators or partial enclosures where additional noise control or ventilation is required.
